Data-viz drawing

When you draw you quickly can put your thoughts and ideas on paper. You can come up with visual solutions without losing yourself in tools or software. Sketching can also boost your creativity. Your sketch doesn´t need not be perfect, but it can help you to achieve new visual forms or ideas. Ideas that will fit the story that you want to tell with your data or information.

In this training, we follow all the steps in the visualisation process using only pen and paper. We´ll do data analysis through drawing, look for creative techniques through drawing and create a final visualisation through drawing.

The training will be run by Stefanie Posavec (USA), known from her year-long analog data drawing project Dear Data in collaboration with Giorgia Lupi. This project was deemed the ‘Best Dataviz Project’ and the ‘Most Beautiful’ (the highest accolade) at the 2015 Kantar Information is Beautiful Awards, and has been nominated for the London Design Museum’s 2016 Designs of the Year Awards.
